On the whole, most of the wine bars feature locally made wine, or generic selections – and don’t think we haven’t taken the opportunity to delve into a margarita or two.

But last night, something completely unexpected happened. We wandered into a speakeasy style wine bar in the Old Town district of Scottsdale, AZ, Kazimierz, to find an Austrian Wine paradise. Complete with extensive bios and spotlights on many Austrian wine producers and grapes such as Alois Kracher, Brundlmayer and Umathum. They were even pouring a Paul Achs Zweigelt blend by the glass!

Trust me, I’m one of the biggest advocates of Austrian wine and am wholly disappointed when I hear someone isn’t familiar with the category – but did I expect to find such an interesting wine bar that featured so many Austrian wines so far away from New York? Not exactly…

For those of your visiting or living in the Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ area, definitely check this place out. Sure it’s a bit artsy and a bit dark, but after 9pm, the lights get even darker and jazz enthusiasts gather for good wine and good music. Check. It. Out.

Prost!
