Special thanks to the International Wine Review team for their recent publication on Austrian wine. The report is a comprehensive, in-depth and truly fabulous document that anyone curious about Austrian wine will greatly benefit from purchasing.
The review covers a variety of topics from the top wine regions and grape varieties to food and wine pairing suggestions and even some reviews of individual wines and wineries.
We can’t share the whole report here, but here’s a teaser covering just a tidbit of the information the report provides that may surprise you:
“Austria has approved 35 varietals for the production of wine, with white wine varietals accounting for two-thirds of all plantings. However…just four varietals—Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt, Welschriesling, and Blaufränkisch—account for over 60 percent of the total. No other varietal even reaches 5 percent of the total.”
