Think “Grüner” for St Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is upon us, and while we aren’t Irish, we can certainly appreciate a holiday that celebrates one of our favorite activities: the consumption of food and drink.

In case you are unaware, “grüner” means “green” in German, and this same word, “grüner” is also the first half of our largest produced white grape, Grüner Veltliner. Put the two together and you may realize where we’re going with this post. Now, let’s add the fact that the generally accepted color of St. Patrick’s Day is green and we’ve got ourselves a match!

Think “Grüner” this St. Patrick’s Day and you’ll be right in theme! After all, for how many years have you choked down cheap beer dyed for food coloring all for the fun of celebration. This is a much better option.

Added bonus: Grüner Veltliner is the ultimate food wine. While you’re chomping down on corned beef and cabbage, you can rest assured knowing that you’re drinking the best wine to pair with those foods.

Here’s a recipe from the Food Network in case you try to make it yourself: Corned Beef and Cabbage with Herb Buttered Potatoes.

So remember, think Grüner! We’d love to see your photos from the day so please feel free to post them on our Facebook page or Tweet them at us! We’ll also repost them here!
