Grüner Veltliner Around the World

THIS JUST IN:

We just received a note from our friends at Laurenz V that, for the first time ever, there will soon be a tasting of Austrian Grüner Veltliner in comparison to others around the world. As you may or may not be aware, Grüner Veltliner is gaining international popularity with plantings in new world areas such as New Zealand, Oregon, and California as well as many other spots!

In their words:

Twelve Grüner apostles will taste 10 Austrian against 30 international Grüners from 9 countries from around the world: Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, USA, Argentina.

This is to evaluate Grüner on a global basis and to develop further strategies for this great new varietal.

Watch out for “GENERATION GRÜNER“ and stay tuned for the results to be published by July 23rd.

We don’t normally wish away our summer, but we’re very excited to see the results on July 23rd – stay tuned, we’ll be sure to post them!

Update 7/10/12: We’ve received more information!

The tasting will be held on July 20th in Vienna and the Grüners will be tasted with an exclusive twelve-member group of selected Grüner enthusiasts and experts from the European press & trade.

It will be a blind tasting rated with the 20 points system. All the wines will be revealed at the end of the tasting at which time judges will have the opportunity to come back to re-taste the wines with all the fact sheets.

Laurenz V wants to evaluate Grüner on a global basis and develop further strategies for this great varietal.

Stay tuned for results July 23rd!
