New York City (re)Welcomed 3 Hot Spots in 2012

This year was a good year for Austrian wine, cuisine, and even cocktails in New York City!

It was announced today that the much anticipated cocktail bar, The Third Man by Michelin-starred chefs, Wolfgang Ban and Eduard Frauneder is officially open for business! The bar is named after the 1950’s film, The Third Man. Stop by for cocktails inspired by the movie and by the chefs’ culinary expertise as well as delicious still and sparkling wines by the glass; the bar is located on Avenue C between 7th and 8th Streets.

In June, the newly remodeled Cafe Kristall reopened its doors after undergoing hefty renovations. This spot, owned and operated by premier Austrian chef, Kurt Gutenbrunner, is located in the rear of the Swarovski Crystal store in Soho. This spot offers a wide selection of Austrian wines by the glass and bottle, delicious coffee, and a selection of small plates and finger sandwiches. Step in and be transported to Vienna! The main entrance for the cafe is on Mercer Street between Spring and Broome Streets.

October marked the reopen date for Cafe Katja, the Lower East Side eatery known for its traditional Austrian fare and cozy atmosphere. The remodeling job has more than doubled the space in size and now offers a more open, contemporary feel to match the Lower East Side’s ever-growing-in-sophistication style. Visit Cafe Katja at 79 Orchard Street.

Overall, it’s been a good year! Of course, don’t forget to visit some of our old favorites such as Wallse, The Upholstery Store, Blaue Gans, Cafe Sabarsky, Edi & the Wolf, and Seasonal Restaurant & Wine Bar next time you’re here too!
