Valentine’s Day Wines for All Austrian Wine Lovers

Valentine’s Day is upon us and what can we say? We’re loving the mood! After all, what’s better than a holiday meant for over-indulgence on food, wine, and the color red in honor of love?

The good news is that no matter if you’re in a serious relationship, married, involved in a casual fling, or even single, you can still appreciate the good mood! We’ve come up with food and wine pairings for every situation so grab your sweeties, your girlfriends, or your guys and celebrate! The key is too keep it light at the dinner table so you’re not too full for late-evening activities and to include lots of aphrodisiacs…

riblets

 For the married couple:

Marriage means stability, but it doesn’t have to mean boring. Try this spicy dish to spice things up between you two this Thursday. We’re suggesting Baked Ribs with Spicy Blackberry Sauce  paired with a spicy Zweigelt. The recipe is a little off-the-beaten-path, but it has a nice balance of spice and fruit and features aphrodisiacs garlic, chili, and honey – not to mention the red wine! It’s the perfect combination for taste and enjoyment!

For the serious relationship:

If you’re in a serious relationship, you will need a serious dish – but this evening is all about fun so nothing too serious! For this couple, we recommend a Seared Duck Breast with Cherries and Port paired with a St. Laurent. This dish is sensual and serious in itself, but add a few pomegranate seeds for an aphrodisiac if you wish!

We recommend trying something different – after all, that’s what you’re doing now, right? Why not test this interesting recipe Beet Ravioli with Pine Nut “Goat Cheese” Rosemary-Cream Sauce, Aged Balsamic Vinegar with Blaufränkisch. In this dish, the garlic and pine nuts (and the red wine!) are aphrodisiacs. Added bonus is that this dish isn’t as heavy as traditional ravioli, but will give you lots of energy!

For the singleton:

One word: Sekt! Sekt, aka Austrian sparkling wine, is the perfect way to feel flirty and fun and happy about living your life with so many great adventures to come! Should you get hungry, slurp down some oysters – prepared simply with parsley and a Champagne minonetteOysters are light so they won’t bog you down leaving you free to own the night.

So go get ’em tiger! Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours!

Hmmm. I am married but some of the others seem equally appealing–great list!

I am such a huge fan–I spent a week in Salzburg and drank nothing but Austrian wines. I bought a case to bring home and I am saving them for as long as I can. Huge fan!
