Snooth’s PVA Tasting Takes Bloggers on Terroir Trip

Snooth’s first annual People’s Voice Awards tasting went off without a hitch for Austrian wine.

Proudly, we poured two of our winning wineries – Nikolaihof Wachau, and Weingut Brundlmayer – at the Grand Tasting Event Saturday night and in a seminar exhibit like never before, showcased 13 wines to top wine writers and bloggers in variations of Gruner’s Terroir. The seminar, led by Aldo Sohm, Best Sommelier in the World 2008, Chef Sommelier at Le Bernardin, and fellow Austrian wine professional took the intimate group through various regions of Austria highlighting the soils, climate, and other factors of terroir that contribute to the multiple faces of Grüner Veltliner.

It was a chilly spring day, but huddled in NYC’s Meet at The Apartment, the group of bloggers felt the warmth of Austrian wine. Some styles of Grüner brought typically expected notes such as white pepper, green apple, and lemon zest, but others brought something else.

Here are the wines we tasted:

        1. Pfaffl Austrian Pepper 2011 – $13.99
        2. Stadlmann Gruner Veltliner 2011 – $15.99
        3. Huber Obere Steigen -$21.99
        4. Ebner Ebenauer  Birthal 2011 – $18.75
        5. Graf Hardegg Vom Schloss 2011 – $17.99
        6. Veyder Malberg Kreutles 2011 – $29.99
        7. Sohm & Kracher Gruner Veltliner 2011 – $38
        8. Moric St. Georgener Gruner Veltliner  – $48.99
        9. FX Pichler Durnsteiner Liebenberg Smaragd 2011
        10. Prager Stockkultur 2011 – $90.00
        11. Ott Fass 4 2011 – $26.00
        12. Schloss Gobelsburg Lamm 2011 – $62
