As we’ve told you in the past, the 2010 vintage was, unfortunately, of low yield, but fortunately the quality of the wines was high. Well, after a few months in their fermentation vats, some of the 2010 vintage is starting to come our way.

What we’ve come across so far is a few delectable rosé wines – a growing category, meant to be consumed young and a perfect wine for the transition from winter to spring (trust us when we tell you, these wines are worth sipping!)

Here are some we tried yesterday at the Terry Theise portfolio tasting:

• Willi Bründlmayer Zweigelt Rose 2010 (Kamptal)
• Schloss Gobelsburg Rose Gobelsburger 2010 (Kamptal)
• Hofer Zweigelt Rose 2010 (Weinvertel)

In our official opinion, you should scoop these wines up while you can – they might not be available for long.

Other highlights just released: well, there’s always lots of those, but in particular we’d like to make a special note of the 2006 Schröck Kracher Ruster Ausbruch – a compilation of Heidi Schröck and Alois Kracher, two very close friends who partnered to craft this wine before the death of Alois Kracher. A “special blend” of grapes, as described by Heidi Schröck, this wine is, dare we say, lusciously delightful.

Despite the small crop, looks like 2011 will bring forth even more wines of excellence – can’t see what we taste next.
